Chris "Gobi" Schafer, a southern California native and airline technician / welder, joined the Bodrodz Xtreme Gravity Racing in the summer of 2017. Schafer, a good friend of Doug Anderson's, were talking gravity racing one day and Anderson asked if he would be interested in joining the team in their speed quest at the upcoming 2017 L'Ultime Descente Speed Challenge, the world's greatest gravity speed event held in Quebec, Canada. Schafer jumped at the opportunity. Chris' hard work and dedication to BXGR and the sport of gravity speed racing was second to none. Schafer would be instrumental in making BXGR a total success at the Canadian event setting three WGSA world records. Chris had proved to be one of the best in the sport. BXGR can't thank "Gobi" enough for his contributions to the team. A true team player. Thanks Chris

Bodrodz Graham Thompson, Andy Ash, and Chris Schafer pre-flight the Atomic Sliver that Ash would pilot at the Canadian event. Realizing the seriousness of gravity speed racing, Chris with his aircraft/hotrod background and attention to detail, he kept a constant vigil inspecting every aspect of the cars after each run. Schafer's constant inspections of the Bodrodz cars paid off. BXGR did not have one mechanical issue in 19 runs at the event.

Chris was the "chute guy". He always made sure the shrouds and panels were correct. The last thing you want to go wrong at the bottom end is a chute failure when you're traveling in excess of 150' a second and things start going South. "My second pass, I was out the back door of the speed trap at 99 mph and found myself sideways. The parachute snapped the car around and saved my butt!" Thanks Chris,
Doug Anderson
